Replacement Survey Checklist for Door Maintenance Contractors
The exact survey fields we need to fabricate a replacement aluminium door, shopfront or window from your site visit. Print it, take it on the next reactive call, hand the completed sheet to the fabricator. Quote returned in 24 hours.
- Outerframe + leaf measurement protocol (no rework on the kit)
- Hardware schedule fields — lock, closer, hinge, panic, threshold
- Glass spec capture (toughened, laminated, IGU build-up)
- Finish reference (RAL + photo procedure for ageing facades)
- Failure-mode triage checklist (re-glaze vs replace leaf vs full doorset)

Why we made this
Reactive replacement supply is one of our biggest trade segments. About 1 in 4 surveys we receive lands without enough detail to quote — meaning a back-and-forth that costs the maintenance contractor a working day in delays.
We built this checklist after auditing every reactive job we fabricated last year. It's the minimum viable survey for us to fabricate a replacement to your spec without follow-up questions, and the maximum useful detail beyond which extra info doesn't speed the quote.
Print one for the van. Take it on every reactive call. Hand the completed sheet — plus failure photos — to whichever fabricator you use. We'd love it to be us. Either way it cuts your survey-to-fabrication time and protects your maintenance ticket margin.
"I got tired of watching installers get let down by fabricators who didn't care. Taking over Kingsland gave me the chance to build it the right way — reliable, fast, and actually easy to work with."
— Stephen Chappell, Managing Director
What's in the Checklist
1. Pre-survey triage
Decide on site: re-glaze, replace leaf, or full doorset replacement. Saves ordering wrong scope.
2. Outerframe measurement
"Measure three times, take the smallest" — head, threshold, jamb-to-jamb. Fixings vs reveal interface.
3. Leaf measurement
Top to bottom, hinge to lock edge — measured on the leaf, not the opening.
4. Hardware schedule
Lock + cylinder, closer, hinge/pivot, panic hardware, finger guard, kick plate, threshold type.
5. Glass spec capture
IGU build-up, toughened/laminated, low-iron, solar-control coating. Match or upgrade.
6. Finish reference
RAL number + daylight photo. How to handle finish ageing on visible facades.
7. Photo protocol
The 7 photos that drive a like-for-like fabrication. Saves 30+ mins of follow-up questions.
8. Submission package
What to send the fabricator — the survey sheet + photos + project context for a 24h quote.
